Reaching our community for Jesus Christ and building passionate disciples

Matt Johnson

Growing up in a family that was very involved in the church, Matt became a believer at the age of 10 with the help of his mother.  All through school, Matt was involved in whatever was happening in the church, and spent summers attending and serving at a Christian camp near Boone, Iowa.

After graduating high school, Matt went to Full Sail University where he received a Bachelor’s degree in film and video production.  After graduating, Matt worked as a video producer and youth worker at a church in West Des Moines, Iowa.  He also met his amazing wife Jess while there.  After getting engaged, Matt began serving at Westchester Evangelical Free Church with the youth.

At Westchester his calling to ministry was affirmed, as he realized his relational gifting as well as passion for seeing young people take steps of faith.  He also applied to Moody Theological Seminary.  Matt and Jess moved to Chicago in 2012.  Matt worked for Dr. Wong Loi Sing at Moody, learning how to effectively communicate God’s Word and helping write a hermeneutics text book that is currently being used.  Matt received a Master of Divinity with an emphasis on spiritual formation and discipleship.

Matt spends his free time cooking, brewing coffee, and perfecting pizza recipes with his friend Marco.  When he’s not in the kitchen, he’s probably playing Ultimate Frisbee or basketball, watching the NBA (Go Suns), or reading.
